Mercy Prayers: For the Dying

Prayer for the Sick near Death
Almighty and Everlasting God, preserver of souls, who dost correct those whom Thou dost love, and for their betterment dost tenderly chastise those whom Thou dost receive, we call upon Thee, O Lord, to grant Thy healing, that the soul of Thy servant, at the hour of its departure from the body, may by the hands of Thy holy Angels be presented without spot unto Thee. Amen

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Dying

O St. Joseph, protector of those in agony, take pity on those who at this very moment when I pray to thee are engaged in their last combat.

O blessed Joseph, take pity on my soul too when the hour of the final battle shall arrive for me. Then, O my holy patron, do not abandon me, but grant me thine assistance; show that thou art my good father, and obtain that my Divine Savior may receive me with mercy into that abode where the elect enjoy a life that shall never end. Amen.

Prayer for Those Who Are to Die This Day

O most merciful Jesus, Lover of souls, I pray Thee, by the agony of Thy most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Thine Immaculate Mother, cleanse in Thine Own Blood the sinners of the whole world who are now in their agony and who are to die this day. Amen.

Prayer for Mercy

Forgive us, O Lord,
of all the times
that we have been part of the problem,
in choosing to turn our backs
to the needs of those you sent our way,
in choosing not to look into the eyes
of the poor,
the weary,
the lost
in choosing to pretend the anger
wasn't real,
the injustice wasn't done,
the truth wasn't twisted.

Help us, O Lord
to see with your eyes,
to hear with your ears,
to love with your heart.

O Heart of mercy,
big enough to embrace this whole
sinsick and weary world,
have mercy on us.

Teach us to be the hands of your mercy on this earth,
this day, and always,
Amen.

For God's Mercy

Lord, have mercy on us.
----Christ have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, hear us.
----Christ graciously hear us.
God, the Father of heaven,
----have mercy on us.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
----have mercy on us.
God the Holy Spirit,
----have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, one God,
----have mercy on us.

To all those who choose to misunderstand your word,
Be merciful, O Lord.
To all those who thinking to preserve dignity, choose evil over good,
Be merciful O Lord,
To those who try to twist your word to make their points seem holy,
Be merciful O Lord,
To those who declare your Spirit is leading them to declare your word wrong,
Be merciful O Lord,
To those who declare your Spirit is leading them to declare some sins as good,
Be merciful O Lord.
To those who lead others astray to validate their sins,
Be merciful O Lord.
To those who injure others in your name,
Be merciful O Lord.
To those who betray the trust of those in their charge,
Be merciful, O Lord.
To those who bring scandal that turns others away from you,
Be merciful O Lord.
To those who try to make you seem little and weak,
Be merciful O Lord.

Have mercy on those who persecute your followers,
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on those who choose death saying it is better than life,
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on those who lead others astray after convincing themselves what they want is holy,
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on those who think supporting the right of death is not contrary to your will,
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on those who think that by harming others, they are doing your will.
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on the self-deluded,
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on the angry,
Open their hearts, O Lord.
Have mercy on those injured by others and who turn away from your light.
Open their hearts, O Lord.

From those who call darkness light,
Good Lord, preserve us.
From those who would hurt others in your name,
Good Lord, preserve us.
From those who would lead our children astray,
Good Lord, preserve us.
From those who twist truth to validate their actions,
Good Lord preserve us.
From those who use your name to do the wrong they want,
Good Lord, preserve us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
Spare us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
Graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us.

Let us pray:

O God our loving Father, you who sent your only begotten Son to this sad world so that we might have life, and that abundantly, you know the hearts of man, in our good and in our bad, in our folly, and when we use the wisdom you send us. Be with us all, and remember us in your mercy. Open the hearts of those of us who do wrong, have mercy on those under persecution, and may we be willing always to see the light of your truth for what it is, and not be snared by the counterfeits of the enemy.

We ask this in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen.

Ocean of Mercy - a prayer

Your love, O Lord, is an ocean,
An ocean of mercy waiting to quench our burning thirst,
Living water,
Water ready to purify the darkness of sin,
Water to quench the fires of hate,
Water to fill the parched aching within,
Water to wash us clean,
Living water streaming from the heart of a loving God,
Endless fount of mercy,
Gift beyond our imagining.

Open our hearts, O Lord,
and remind us how we need that living water,
how we will perish without the touch of that healing flow,
how life becomes a meaningless desert
when we wander separated from the living water of your presence.
Help us to realize
that when the burning thirst touches us,
it is only you who can quench that fire within,
and when touched by your living waters,
may we remember the giver,
and pass the gift on to those whose lives we touch,
this day, and always,
Amen.

A prayer for mercy on this world

Prayer for Mercy

In the darkness of the moment, I turn to you, O Lord,
You who are the light in which there is no darkness.
Help me to see my way among the rocks and the holes,
The rubble of this sin-filled land in its starkness,
All the places where I might trip and fall
And be swallowed up by the night.

How the sound of sin's dark consequences
pierce through the midnight of this poor world,
The hatred masquerading as good intentions,
in smoke and fire and death and grief unfurl,
in little ways, too, with heart rending words
designed to cut and blight.

O Lord, remember us, how you gave your blood in love
to open up the door to heaven's healing touch,
And looked upon all our hurts and pains with loving eyes,
Shepherdless this people, needing much --
And as the darkness thickens, Lord,
Restore to us our sight!

Steadfast love we have not, save what comes from You,
Who sends your grace to fall upon this hard place
In spite of who we are and what we've done since day began.
In spite of sin and coldness, O Lord, turn not your face,
But remember how you wept in the garden
That one spring moonlit midnight.

O Lord, have pity on the ones I cannot reach but know
How frightened, lost and hungry are their days,
O Lord, the children lost, their parents dying, the wars go on
Satan's laughter piercing through the blood red haze --
Remember Lord, the cross that awful day,
Help us by your might!

Kyrie eleison,
Christe eleison,
Kyrie eleison.

The Ways of Your Mercy: A Prayer

Teach me o Lord, the ways of your mercy,
How to reach out in truth,
Not in the false sentimentality of popular notions,
that shifting sense of fairness
that changes with fashion and taste,
but in the true ways your word reveals,
caring for the ugly and the outcast,
the unpopular, the needy,
in the ways that you show us to do.

Teach me O Lord, the ways of your mercy,
How to reach out in truth,
Not with the false rationality that blooms ever anew
to find reasons not to help, to say no
in spite of the truth of what your word reveals,
help me not to turn my back on the ones you send me,
help me not to grow hard hearted with the call now to love,
but to walk in the ways that you call us to do.

Teach me, O Lord, the ways of your mercy,
To see your eyes shining in the face of the lost,
To hear your voice calling in the cry of the hungry,
To reach out and cover your shoulders as I clothe the naked,
To feel your touch in the hands of the unloved.
Through your help, O Lord, let me reach out to God's children
As if I were reaching out in love to you.

This day, and always, Amen.
