God in a Box

Lots of times, you hear people say, "Do you think God would have really done that?" when they are trying to cast doubt on something from the Bible or some other historical moment.

"Do you really think God would do X?" can be a sign that says "My image of God doesn't allow for that." But that image may or may not match the reality of how he has demonstrated behavior in the past. One's willingness to accept those demonstrations also can reflect on
the box one puts God into.

God really ought not be put in a box. He has a knack of breaking those boxes open, every bit as much as he broke open an empty tomb.

Yes God is loving, but he can be pretty determined and we are creatures that he will use to work out his determinated plan of action. Look how he treated his own son - look at what happened to
the apostles! Look at many of the lives of the saints! He does not behave like a spun-sugar pat-you-on-the-head, "I'm ok, you're ok" type of person from how he has behaved in the past. From a human standpoint, if God were just another human we would say that he could and can be pretty ruthless in geting his way when he wants something done.

God is God, and I am not. Blessed be His name.
