Some thoughts on Confession

Confession is also known as penance and reconcilliation, where good Catholics look at their lives, face the reality that what they have done is through their own fault, not others, and, like the prodigal son, return to the Father and admit that they have sinned.

No copouts allowed. Sin is that which breaks our relationship with God, and only by repenting of it and seeking God's forgiveness can we restored.

Repentence is a hard discipline that to the honest soul becomes a way of life - even Paul tells us how he struggled and caught himself doing just the things he didn't want to do. It makes you humble knowing that you fall short, that God is all good and you are, like all humans, a screw up and less than perfect, and you NEED the grace of God.

And done honestly, with a desire to please God and amend one's ways, this becomes perhaps the most transforming sacrament of all.
