On another blog, someone was discussing love of God, love of neighbor and love of self...and I found myself writing this:

For me, the root of the love of God is not in just some abstract concept of a transcendant God, but in my response to God who coming to earth was willing to put up with all of that and hurt and go hungry and suffer and lose a foster-father and watch his disciples scatter in fear and the one who was one of his best friends crack and run away, and witness the suffering of his mother and hurt, hurt hurt for love.

And in response, all I can do is fall to my knees in love and sorrow and say, O my Jesus! I am so sorry! I love you! Teach me to love you more!

It's the reality of Jesus the Man-God that makes it possible for me to strive to see people as his children,
to see the other as neighbor and not threat, to know that it is through Jesus, with Jesus, for Jesus that any good that I accomplish comes.

This is the bedrock on which I stand. It is the only way that I have been able to find that makes the commands to love God and love neighbor come to life.
