Prayer is essential to one who wants to walk humbly with God. Prayer is, among other things, a conversation with God. One thing this means is that if you want to grow your relationship with God, to become closer, you need to be with God a lot. You can't have a conversation with someone that you aren't spending time
with. We NEED that time with him if we are going to be channels of his peace in
this world. He can't make us into the people he wants us to be if we are "hit and run" prayer people.
I have found the "Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence helpful in trying to stay in the presence of the Lord longer, although I am sure the
Lord thinks I talk too much and that I don't listen enough!
And when I leave God out of the equation, I find my life is not nearly as blessed. May the Lord bring us all closer to his sacred heart every day!
