One of the things dawning on me lately is how Jesus'
life was opened with Mary's willingness to freely give
God her Yes, without counting the cost. Jesus' passion
was entered into with him freely giving the Father his
Yes, even though it cost him great effort to give it at
that time.
His life, given to teach and then redeem us was opened
and closed by a willing submission to God, a free gift,
a desire to do what the Father wants us.
What great role models to follow!
One thing we can see, is that the rewards in terms of
being close to God are great, but sacrifices in the
human realm are often called for.
We as Christians are called to live loving lives that spread the truth
of Jesus to our fellow humans. This means we try to
say yes when calledto pray, to fast, to be
loving, to draw closer to Jesus. We give up things.
TV. Activities we don't feel go with being holy
people. Sometimes we have to put up with people who
don't understand us, don't want to believe in the
truth we are trying to share, sometimes within our own families. But in
the end, it is Jesus and living for him that matters.
Just like our Lady had to feel the sword pass through
her heart during her Son's passion, we will have
moments that are suffered for the love of God, but in
the end, if we persevere, we too will find the cost
worth it.
